Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected when you visit beautypicked.com (the "site"), who collects it, and the choices you have. We have tried to write it plainly. The short version: you can use this site without an account, we do not set cookies, we do not run analytics or advertising scripts, and we do not sell your personal information. Amazon, our hosting provider and a font provider do receive some technical information, and this page explains how.

Who we are

The site is run by BeautyPicked. For anything about this policy or your information, email hello@beautypicked.com.

What we collect

We designed the site to need very little information about you.

• No accounts. There is no sign-up, login, newsletter form or comment box. We never ask for your name, email address, phone number or payment details.
• Saved picks stay in your browser. When you tap the heart to save an edit to My Picks, the list of saved pages is stored in your browser's local storage (under the key beauty-picked). It is not sent to us. You can remove items with the heart button, or delete them all by clearing this site's data in your browser.
• Quiz answers live in the web address. When you finish the routine quiz, your four answers are written into the page's URL (for example /quiz/?result=...) so you can bookmark or share the result. Filters you choose on a listing page work the same way (?filters=...). We don't store these answers anywhere. Like any URL, they are included in the request your browser sends when the page loads, so they can appear in the technical request data described below. Don't put personal information into a link you share.
• Emails you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include, and we use it only to reply and to deal with what you asked about.

Cookies, analytics and third-party scripts

We checked the site's code and the live pages before publishing this policy:

• The site sets no cookies. Our code does not create cookies, and our pages are served without any Set-Cookie headers.
• No analytics. We do not use Google Analytics, a tag manager, Cloudflare Web Analytics, heatmaps, session recording or any other analytics or tracking service.
• No advertising or tracking pixels. We do not show display ads, and no advertising network, social media pixel or retargeting script runs on the site.
• One third-party resource: Google Fonts. Our pages load two typefaces (Cormorant Garamond and DM Sans) from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). To deliver the font files, Google receives your IP address, your browser's user agent and the address of the page that requested them. When we checked, these font requests set no cookies. • Share buttons are plain links. "Save to Pinterest" opens pinterest.com in a new window only when you click it; no Pinterest code runs on our pages. "Copy link" and the share icon use your own device's clipboard and share menu.

If any of this changes (for example, if we add analytics or advertising), we will update this policy before the change goes live.

Hosting and security: Cloudflare

The site is hosted on Cloudflare's network. To serve and protect the site, Cloudflare processes the technical data that every web request carries, such as your IP address, browser user agent, the page requested (including any quiz or filter answers in the URL), the referring page, and the date and time. Cloudflare uses this data to deliver pages, block abuse and keep the service secure, and we can view short-lived technical request logs for troubleshooting. If Cloudflare suspects automated or malicious traffic, it may show a security check and set a security cookie for that purpose. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy and Cloudflare's Cookie Policy.

Amazon Associates and affiliate links

BeautyPicked is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Our "Check price on Amazon" buttons and product links go to Amazon.com and include our Associates tracking ID. When you click one, you leave our site, and Amazon's own privacy notice and cookie notice apply to what happens on Amazon. Amazon uses cookies and similar technologies to record that you arrived through our link so that qualifying purchases can be credited to us.

Please be aware that third parties (including Amazon and other advertisers) may serve content and advertisements, collect information directly from visitors, and place or recognize cookies on visitors' browsers. Those third parties handle that information under their own privacy policies, not this one.

Amazon gives us reports showing how many clicks our links received and which products were ordered. These reports do not tell us who you are: we do not receive your name, address, contact details or order history from Amazon. See the Amazon.com Privacy Notice.

Your choices about online advertising

We don't run interest-based advertising on this site, but the companies whose sites we link to may. You can limit interest-based advertising here:

• Digital Advertising Alliance (WebChoices): optout.aboutads.info lets you opt out of interest-based ads from participating companies in the browser you are using.
• Network Advertising Initiative: thenai.org/how-to-opt-out explains the NAI's opt-out tools for participating companies.
• Amazon: Amazon's advertising preferences page lets you choose whether to see interest-based ads provided by Amazon.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, use your browser's private mode, or turn on Global Privacy Control if your browser supports it. Opting out does not stop all advertising; it means the ads you see are less likely to be based on your interests.

Links to other websites

Our articles link to brand websites, retailers, dermatology organisations, government sites and editorial reviews so you can check our sources. Those sites have their own privacy policies and may set their own cookies. We don't control them and are not responsible for how they handle your information. Please read their policies when you visit them.

Children

The site is written for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information by email, contact us and we will delete it.

US state privacy rights

Some US states (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and others) give residents rights over their personal information, such as the right to know what is collected, to access it, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of its "sale" or "sharing" for targeted advertising.

• We do not sell personal information, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We have not done so in the past 12 months. Because the site has no accounts, forms, analytics or advertising scripts, there is no personal information here for us to sell or share.
• We do not use sensitive personal information, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
• To make a request to know, access, correct or delete information we hold about you (in practice, this can only be emails you have sent us), email hello@beautypicked.com. We will respond within the time the applicable law requires and may need to confirm the request came from you. You can use an authorised agent. We will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights.
• If your request is about information Amazon, Cloudflare or Google holds, please contact them directly using the links above, because we don't hold or control that data.

Your rights under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020

BeautyPicked is run from New Zealand. Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to ask whether we hold personal information about you, to access it, and to ask us to correct it. Email hello@beautypicked.com and we will respond within 20 working days. If you are not satisfied with how we handle a privacy concern, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Where information is processed

Cloudflare, Google and Amazon operate worldwide, so the technical data described above may be processed in countries other than the one you live in, including the United States. Each of them describes its safeguards in its own privacy policy.

How long information is kept

• Saved picks stay in your browser until you remove them or clear the site's data. We never receive them.
• Quiz and filter answers exist only in the URL; we keep no copy.
• Emails are kept only as long as we need them to reply and to keep a record of corrections, then deleted.
• Cloudflare request logs are kept for a limited period under Cloudflare's retention settings.

Security

The site is served only over HTTPS. Because we collect so little, very little personal information exists to protect, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site handles information, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date at the top before the change takes effect. If a change is significant, we will say so clearly on this page.
